FLOR needed a low cost retail display piece for a limited number of boutiques. Informed by Mission Zero™, FLOR’s goal to leave zero environmental footprint by the year 2020, and inspired by the legendary works of architects Frank Gehry and Shigeru Ban, our Modular Merchandiser was an exploration in fully recyclable design and a break from the loud displays we've become accustomed to. Made of stacked corrugated cardboard layers and constructed with eco-friendly materials, this durable, green, retail display system was designed to make a visual and emotional impact on customers, drawing them into the FLOR experience.

Inspiration for the Modular Merchandiser

We designed the Modular Merchandiser so that up to twenty-five FLOR tiles could easily slide into the corrugated cardboard slots with the tops of the towers acting as bins to hold product swatches. We included cut-out side shelves for retailers to include sales materials within their unique display. To top it off, we created inspirational signage that could easily attach to the Merchandiser itself or transition to wall or hanging POS.

Just like FLOR tiles, this retail display system is versatile and design-it-yourself. Retailers had the creative flexibility to display the two towers and the five signs in any arrangement they could think up. The Modular Merchandiser's simplicity was, in a word, disruptive. It took the mantra of the colorful, poppy retail display and turned it on its head. Instead of creating a flashy display piece that overpowers the product, we used the product itself--FLOR's brilliantly colored tiles--to be that bright, poppy burst that catches customers’ eyes. And it did.
